Spring has sprung — along with the tulips, etc. — and sandal season has begun.  Age doesn’t matter; we all need to free our feet and take care of that hard-working part of our bodies.  Here are some tips on the most effective ways to prepare your feet for the warm season ahead.

1) Callous Removal

Use an electronic callous remover or a foot file in either diamond or metal.

File before soaking, unless you opt for a callous removal gel, which can help soak away a majority of dead skin.  Be Natural’s gel is very effective, and you can use a file afterward to take care of any areas it might have missed.

Maintenance

Maintain the smoothness with a pumice stone.  Not an initial solution to stubborn callouses, but great for daily use in the shower to keep roughness at bay.  Just make sure feet are wet first.

To target dry patches (around ankles and heels), exfoliate with products when the area is dry, but after soaking.  You can use exfoliating gloves with an exfoliating agent.  Moisturize immediately after.

Spa Socks

Exfoliate, apply thick cream and wear cotton socks overnight while you sleep (give your hands the same treatment wearing white cotton gloves).

Stain Removal

Remove stains from toenails with ingredients from your medicine cabinet:  toothpaste, whitening strips, hydrogen peroxide.  The surest way is to saturate cotton in hydrogen peroxide, put it on each nail, wait 3-5 minutes, and scrub it off.

Banishing Blisters

Don’t try to “cure” a blister.  You can’t treat them.  You just have to keep them clean and protected so they don’t get infected, and let nature take its course.

Final Step

Once you’ve taken care of the state of your feet, you can finish by applying nail polish.
