Exactly How to Style the Urban Safari Look: 100’s of Ways

If you’ve read my post How to Get the Ultimate Cool and Casual Safari Look HERE, you might be wondering, “But how do I put it all together?” Today, I have hundreds of outfit ideas to make it easy for you to wear the urban safari style.

First, I will review the elements of this style so that you can substitute and/or embellish the outfit ideas presented below. Here is a brief recap from my last article, generally describing how to get the look, followed by hundreds of different ways to style it.

Remember, this is a classic look so age doesn’t matter. As always, make it your own by wearing pieces you love and express your true self!

The Basic Elements of Safari Style

All you need for this type of style is some earth colors and tribal/ethnic accessories. You can add a splash of jungle green, orange, teal, and/or gemstones. See my Pinterest board, Urban Safari by Your True Self, to see the beautiful variations this can make.

If you have a basic safari shirt or safari jacket, you can use them with all sorts of things that you already have in your wardrobe to come up with a safari look. You could also substitute a chambray shirt or jean jacket or olive utility jacket.
A utility vest or jacket may also be used.
For cool weather, the safari-style you can use a fleece shirt, jacket or vest.
Khaki pants are another basic. Just use them with earth colors. Alternatively, you could use cargo pants or utility pants or even earth-colored joggers.
Another way to begin creating a safari look is to start with any piece of clothing that is khaki or olive-colored.
Neutral, earth-toned colors with a tribal or animal print automatically create a safari feel.
Earthy textures to use are suede, burlap and raffia. Natural fabrics include cotton, silk, gauze, linen and canvas. You could even use faux fur.
Animal prints and African prints and Motifs in clothing and accessories are integral to safari style.
Add leather shoes, bags, belts, and jackets.
Extra touches are lush embroideries and exotic jewelry reminiscent of a maharaja. Accessorize with wood, gold, ivory and gemstones. Use either big, chunky beads and jewelry or else small and numerous pieces. Wear a dozen or so bracelets at once.
To create a safari look, accessorize with bold, chunky pieces in wood, ivory, metallics and gemstones. Try adding shoes, belts or bags in animal prints. A cotton gauze scarf adds a cool, rustic touch.

A Formula for Creating a Safari Outfit

Start with a leopard-print shirt.

Add bottoms toned to a color in the shirt (or taupe, tan, brown or black bottoms).

You may then add a wide belt, a natural wedge, sandals with chunky heels or gladiator sandals in brown, tan or gold.

To finish the look, accessorize with one or more of the following: one or more statement necklaces with a tribal vibe (big stones, rough metallic finish); dangling earrings with rough, imperfect colored beads and hammered metals; chunky and ethnic-style metal cuffs and/or rope bracelets; accessories with elephant, leopard or other safari animal motif; a casual bag (soft and slouchy is good, or a sporty tote or a cross-body bag or messenger bag).

Leather or canvas looks right with this jungle style.
