How to Improve Your Look in the Rain
April showers bring May flowers (hopefully), but it’s not so much fun for humans to get rained on. It can feel quite miserable when wind and chill are added into the challenges of the day. I have a few ideas for what to wear to stay warm and dry. Age doesn’t matter. Feel free to try new ideas and experiment! Read more to find out how to improve your look in the rain…
On one of those rainy spring days with temps in the 40’s, try:
A black lace tank top + a white shirt + moto jacket + jeans or pants. (I have found faux leather jackets or coats to be great rain cover-ups!) Add a faux fur scarf as a collar on your jacket + a narrow choker. Wear your hair up. (My bane in humidity is combating frizz!) Then all you need is a pair of boots and an umbrella.
Any top + a short black skirt + black tights + black boots with a heel. Carry a black bag with a secure closure and big enough to protect your things.
Kristani, above, said in her blog post “You Can’t Stop the Rain When It Starts to Pour,” that the hoodie and the snood were lifesavers in the 40 mph winds.
Later, when it’s not as cold, try:
An anorak, bomber jacket or just a hoodie with skinny sweatpants.
Or just top jeans and a tee with a beautiful anorak to get out of the house on the spur of the moment…good for brightening up your errands on a gray and rainy day.
A rain jacket in a bright color + neutral-colored jogger pants + a crew-neck top in a color to match pants. Wear rain-proof sneakers.
With a tunic top, tuck some skinny jeans or leggings into biker boots, water-resistant high-top sneakers or something like the moto bootie above.
Wear jeggings (jean-style leggings) under a sweatshirt dress with rain boots. If cool, add a long-sleeve top under the dress. Top with a blanket shawl.
A waterproof trench with any top and pants cuffed up. Add a pair of walking shoes with rubber-tread outsoles and a lightweight scarf twisted around infinity-style. (Just tie the ends together and place the knot in back.)
Wear a colorful anorak over a tunic over skinnies. Add rain boots and a really cool necklace.
Then, for a rainy summer, try this:
On summer days, when I want to wear sandals but don’t like to slosh them through water, I have Crocs. My leopard-print Croc sandals actually look good and are comfortable, as well as being sturdy enough to take the rain. There are lots of nice-looking pairs now. How about these for Crocs above(?!)
Then with your “rain sandals,” you can wear a skirt or shorts or capris.
For Business:
With a black suit and black shell, slide a thin rain parka in a pretty color under the suit jacket with the hood over the collar (and over your head when it’s raining).

Angie, what a great post for rainy day dressing! I do love a cute rain coat for those drizzly dreary days. There is a lot to consider when getting dressed for rainy days. Like hem lengths and footwear. No one wants wet hems or cuffs or feet! Thanks for linking with me!

Hi, Shelbee – Thank you for letting me know your thoughts. I love your snake-print Chelsea boots from your Rainy Day Outfits post and wanted some for myself! But I didn’t find them on Target’s website, sadly. I was happy to join in the link up. Thanks for hosting these – Angie
