The Fundamentals of How to Look Terrific in Flares
Now that we’ve gotten used to wearing comfortable clothes during the Coronavirus pandemic, we don’t want to give up that laid-back feeling. But we really want to look good too, so designers have come up with new ways to do just that. This spring, there are loose designs of just about every item of clothing, including jeans. So there is a resurgence of flared jeans once again. They come in a wide variety of styles — from ’70s bell-bottomed versions to a more modern kick-flare leg, as well as crops. Age doesn’t matter because there’s a modern way of wearing flares. And when you do that, there’s the benefit that it makes you appear younger! So let’s take a look at the fundamentals of how to look terrific in flares.
First of all, if you don’t wear jeans you can get flares in materials other than denim. To get away from the casual look, opt for a dark shade of flared jeans like black, a clean looking white, or even a navy blue in a plain style without rips to get a more classic feel. Also, you can get flares in fabrics that dress up the look. Or you can even buy trouser flares.
Now here are the fundamentals on how to look terrific in flares, starting with basic styling tips and followed by outfit ideas!
Bell sleeves are a perfect match for flared jeans.
Since flares have a gypsy/hippie vibe, they go with pieces like: a fringed vest, a chunky belt, a tie-dyed headband and/or boots. A turtleneck over flares is a classic 70’s look.
For another layer, add a leather jacket, fur jacket, kimono or trench coat to flared jeans.
You can dress up the look of flares by wearing them with a feminine top. You can also add a blazer.
For evening, add a sheer blouse and high heels to any flares.
Since flare jeans have a relaxed and casual look, they go well with grunge-style clothes, such as a plaid shirt or graphic tee. But to avoid a throwback look, just add one of these pieces to your flares and keep the rest of your outfit up to date.
As for shoes, while you can wear ballet flats with flared jeans, a pair of comfy chunky sandals, classic pumps, clogs, wedges, or platform heels will make your legs look leaner and longer.
