3 Ways to Take Care of Yourself: Body, Mind and Spirit
Taking care of your health is an act of self respect. You know how people say to their loved ones, “Take good care of yourself; be well”? They say that because they love you and they care. They also say that when they see you’re doing something that’s not in the interest of your good health. When you take care of yourself, age doesn’t matter because you last longer. So let’s explore the three ways to take care of yourself: in body, mind and spirit.
Body
Think about it. If you could detach and take an objective look at how you eat, exercise, sleep, meditate and take care of yourself in general, are you doing it in a way that someone who loves you would be happy to see? Promise yourself you will take good care. If something needs changing, make one goal at a time. Each month, I focus on one thing to try such as a new exercise or a gratefulness meditation or a skin treatment.
I haven’t done it recently, but I had a buddy system with my grown son for years where we made a new health goal each month. You can see our ups and downs — and our ultimate improvements — in my Health Goal Diary HERE.

Spirit
It’s not just physical health either. To love your true self is to trust in your talents, emotions and mission in life. What do you love to do? What’s fun for you? If you follow your bliss, you will find that you are appreciating who you are at your core. You will find that you are fulfilling your mission in life. You will find happiness. That’s your spirit. You can feel it. And it’s actually good for your health. That’s why sometimes a doctor might recommend that someone take a vacation. Stress makes you sick, but fun heals.

Mind
How about your mind? Do you let yourself daydream and imagine what your best life would be? We tend to just go through the motions day by day, seeing what’s right in front of us, maybe even watching tv every night. But do you appreciate the little things every day? Do you free your mind to think about what you would like to have, be and do next? What if it’s possible? Age doesn’t matter. It’s never too late. Dreaming about what’s next gives you a spark of excitement about what comes next. You won’t want to miss it, and that’s vibrant good health!
Meditation is important because it gives you a few minutes to take time out and let your body-mind process what has happened, is happening and what could happen. It’s an important few minutes to check in with yourself and see if you are being taken care of the way you need to be. It’s really easy to do. I’m finding that I have devoted so much attention to being comfortable and happy where I am that I had forgotten to think about the future I wanted to have. So don’t delay. Someday, your dreams will come true. Dream them now so you will be ready when the time comes and opportunity knocks at your door.
That reminds me that I have always taken the opportunities as they arise…when I realize that’s what they are: opportunities. When you seize the day (carpe diem in Latin,) you add to your life story. I have amazing stories I could tell, and I’m looking forward to new adventures!
Ultimately, your body is what takes you through this journey called life. So take good care of yourself. Be well!
