10 Ways to Elevate Your Day Look
This post was going to be about “smart casual” style, but that is such a tricky subject wide open to interpretation for so many possible events that I chose to simplify. So today I am presenting ten ways to elevate your day look to what I am calling “dressed-up day” or “dressy casual.” What I’m talking about is an everyday outfit dressed up with embellishments or business-like touches. Think preppy or posh. Age doesn’t matter. I encourage you to wear what you love and show your true self. So choose from the following elements what you’d like to incorporate into your outfit. Then, for more inspiration, take a look below at my ideas for ten ways to wear it. I hope this is helpful to you and that you’ll come back to leave a reply letting us know how it works for you!
Here Are the Elements That Elevate an Everyday Look:
- tweeds
- pinstripes
- vests
- shirts and blouses unbuttoned enough to show pretty camisoles
- leopard prints (my personal addition to this list)
- a blazer
- navy or gray flannel jacket, pants, skirts
- statement jewelry
- sparkly accessories
- embellishments such as sequins, studs, lace, embroidery, animal-print, velvet, faux fur, faux leather
10 Outfit Ideas to Elevate Your Day Look:
- Elevated Everyday Look: A pinstripe blazer + light-wash jeans + statement earrings.
- Dressy Casual: A dressy top (such as a shirt, blouse or sweater; not a t-shirt) + any jeans (any color, any shape, coated, embellished, etc.) + a pendant.
- A white or colored shirt tucked inside khakis. Unbutton the shirt low to show a pretty-color/lacy/sequined/studded tee. Add a vest, preferably embellished, open to show shirt. Also add a brown belt + brown boots + a brown-toned cap + sparkly bracelets with sleeves rolled back. You may also have a metallic scarf that you would like to throw around your neck with the ends in front.
- A plaid shirt over velvet pants. Unbutton the shirt low to show a velvet camisole. Add bling (earrings, necklace, bracelets, scarf, shoes…) or preppy accessories.
- A plaid shirt unbuttoned low over a scoop-neck shell + a sleeveless sweater worn over them as a vest + blue jeans. You might want to add a belt with a sparkly buckle adjusted on the high side. Finish with sparkly hoop earrings + sparkly bracelets + a statement necklace.
- A short gray flannel skirt + an animal-print camisole + a cashmere cardigan or a cardigan with a fur collar. Add a scarf toned to any of the colors you are wearing (try for preppy or posh style) + sparkly jewelry + dressy boots + a preppy or posh belt.
- A faux fur vest + ivory button-down shirt inside khakis or jeans. Unbutton the shirt low to show a scoop-neck shell. Add a brown belt & boots or a gold belt. Also add a sparkly statement necklace, bracelets and earrings.
- A black maxi-dress + a multi-chain gold bead necklace + matching earrings. Add black strappy sandals or heeled ankle boots, a trench-coat, a larger black bag and sunglasses if sunny.
- A long-sleeve navy tee + a long or short black velvet skirt. Or, a long-sleeve black tee + a long or short navy velvet skirt. Add bling (jewelry, belt).
- A tweed jacket + a cable-knit sweater + metallic pants. Add a preppy or posh scarf + sparkly accessories (earrings, necklace, bracelets, shoes…) And put your hair up to elevate your look even more.
