How to Embrace the Style of the Cool Skull-Print Scarf
It’s October and time to look forward to Halloween! Age doesn’t matter. It’s a good time to get away with wearing orange with black because nobody will think the Halloween connotation is bad, but rather fitting at this time. My favorite motif for Halloween is skulls because it’s an anytime symbol for goth, rock and apocalyptic style. I think it’s cool (or dope, as they say); how about you? So I’m excited to show you how to embrace the style of the cool skull-print scarf.
Just because I’m thinking that we all might have fun wearing our skull-motif clothes and accessories in October doesn’t mean we can’t wear these pieces any time of the year. As I focus on ways to wear a skull-print scarf today, I hope it helps you to use yours more often.
If you don’t have one and are interested in shopping what I am featuring, you can click on the photos in this post to visit the brand. I am not affiliated with any of these products; they are simply linked for your convenience. Most of the great looks here feature the iconic Alexander McQueen skull scarves. But if you like more of a deal, you can easily find one at Etsy, eBay, Amazon and places like Hot Topic.
So let’s get started:
Make White Work for Fall
Although the scarf above is worn with a white blazer and white shirt, the scarf itself is in burgundy which is trending this fall. You might like to add burgundy bottoms to this outfit to make it a definite autumn-appropriate outfit. To learn more about what colors you can use to signal autumn, see my posts: “How to Combine the New Fall/Winter Fashion Colors Now” and “How to Use Colors That Will Make You Get in the Fall Spirit.”
Up the cool factor of a conservative outfit…
Simply add a skull-print scarf to a conservative outfit and the style quotient goes up dramatically. You can at least get away with this on the way to and from work, if not during the business day. And, on the other hand, wear it to add a graphic contrast to off-duty looks.
Give Dressy Pieces an Edge and a Laid-Back Vibe
A tuxedo jacket is versatile and can even be used in place of a jean jacket. A skull scarf gives it an arty edge, which would be nice for an art opening for instance. It’s also akin to wearing sneakers with a suit: it gives you a laid-back vibe and makes you look creative.
A Third Piece Adds Interest
A skull-printed scarf, or any scarf for that matter, is a third piece that adds interest to any t-shirt and jeans outfit.
Create a Daring Outfit
Since a skull-print scarf is a daring accessory, try wearing it with a black faux-leather jacket.
Outfit Ideas Using a Skull-Print Scarf
These are ideas that you can use to create outfits with what you have. Substitute what you like. I hope these outfit combinations make it easy for you to style your skull scarf.
- Tie a skull-print scarf over a black dress or a dress toned to the colors in the scarf. It can even be an evening dress, such as a black chiffon dress or jumpsuit or a top worn with black chiffon palazzo pants. Tie the scarf the way you like best.
- A little black dress + a skull scarf.
- A black maxi dress + a skull-print scarf. Add chunky footwear + a cuff + gold stacking rings.
- A moto jacket + a black maxi dress or a maxi skirt & top. Add a skull scarf around your neck with the ends in front.
- A black, charcoal or navy shirtdress + a skull-print scarf tied as a belt. Add heels + a black chain-handle purse.
- A red sheath dress + a moto jacket. Add dangle earrings + black boots + a skull scarf around your neck with the ends in front.
Outfit Ideas Using a Skull-Print Scarf With a Blazer
- A classic black blazer + a scoop-neck top + skinny blue jeans. Add a skull-print scarf with ends just dangling in front + long gold and/or silver chains + black/chain bracelets + a turquoise ring + black cut-out ankle boots.
- A classic black blazer + a long shell top + black skinnies. Add a skull scarf + a black beret + black heels + skull jewelry like rings and/or necklace.
- A black blazer + a t-shirt + blue jeans. Tie a skull-print scarf around neck with the ends front. Add black heels + bracelets. Push back your sleeves to show bracelets. If sunny, add sunglasses.
- A black blazer + a graphic tee + blue jeans. Add a skull-print scarf.
- A t-shirt to match the color of your skull-print scarf + a black sweatshirt blazer or knit blazer + dark boot-cut jeans. Just let the ends of the scarf dangle in front. Add gold shoes + cuff bracelets with the color of the scarf and tee.
- A sequined tee + black skinnies + a long, black jacket in a draped fabric. Add a skull-print scarf with the points in front + gold heels + sunglasses if sunny.
Outfit Ideas Using a Skull-Print Scarf With a Cardigan
- A long-sleeve black tee + charcoal, navy or black joggers + a cardigan with black faux-leather trim. Add a skull-print scarf + biker boots + a faux fur jacket in gray or a color toned to the outfit.
- A black boyfriend cardigan + a tunic in a color to match your skull scarf + black leggings. Add black biker boots + a fringed bag + sunglasses if sunny.
- A black cardigan unbuttoned + skinny jeans + a top in a color to match your skull-print scarf. Add tall black boots with a heel + sunglasses if sunny. Let the ends of your scarf hang down inside the front of your cardi.
Other Outfit Combinations Using a Skull-Print Scarf
- Wrap a skull-print scarf around as a head scarf and wear a long-sleeve black top with any bottoms. Add cross earrings + spiked bracelets layered with a few other bracelets or watch.
- A blouse + faux leather pants + a fur vest worn open. Leave the blouse cuffs undone and casually folded up. Add a skull-print scarf + ankle boots + a few chain pendants + rings (got any skull rings?). If cool, layer a cardigan. You may also like to add a fedora.
- A black dress extender + a long sweater over it. Add a skull scarf + boots.
- A short black dress or skirt + a moto jacket left open. Wear your skull-print scarf with the ends inside the front of the jacket. Add black ribbed tights + riding boots + a skull ring.

- A tunic in a color to match your skull-print scarf + a black moto jacket + black skinny jeans. Add sneakers + layered gold pendants + a gold wrap bracelet + aviator sunglasses if sunny.
- A black blouse + black bootcuts + a skull scarf tied off to one side. Add black ankle boots with a heel.
- A gray graphic t-shirt + skinny blue jeans + a black moto jacket. Add a black chain-handle bag. Loosely wrap your skull-print scarf around with the ends in front.
