How to Wear Fringe Pieces: Outfit Ideas & the Chance to Win a Free Gift!
One of the trends for Spring/Summer 2022 is fringe. It may seem like a fringe kind of style, but actually it’s pretty classic. That’s because it shows up on just about anything. I decided to take a look at how to wear fringe pieces that I have in my wardrobe. In the process, I came up with lots of outfit ideas to share with you. Age doesn’t matter.
I’m also happy to announce that I’m offering a free gift to a lucky winner! It’s a matching set of a fringed cuff and a sequined maxi skirt. All subscribers to Your True Self Blog are automatically entered to win. If you have not yet subscribed, be sure to do so now. You can use the subscription form at the top of this page or the one in the right sidebar. Entries will be accepted for the next month and the winner be randomly chosen. You can find details on the giveaway, including photos of the prize, at the end of this post.
And Now, Let’s Get Some Ideas on How to Wear Fringe Pieces in Our Outfits
You can find fringe on jeans and pant cuffs, skirts, dresses, scarves, ponchos, jackets, cardigans, tops, boots and sandals, gloves and jewelry…and now, even robes.
The simplest way to wear a fringed kimono, vest or other fringed topper is over a t-shirt and jeans. The tee could be sleeveless, short sleeved, 3/4 sleeved or long sleeved. It can be solid or graphic.
As a nod to this trend, you can simply add a tassel necklace or earrings to any outfit. Or just carry a fringed handbag.
Outfits With a Fringed Vest
A neutral outfit gets more style from a fringed vest.
- Start with a graphic tee and blue jeans. Top with a long vest with fringe at the bottom + a moto jacket. Add boots.
- A fringed vest + a lace tank or tee + bottoms of your choice. Add a feather necklace, dream-catcher necklace or other Western-style necklace.
- Wear a fringed vest over a little black dress or a floral dress.
Outfits With a Fringed Poncho
- Match a fringed poncho to pants.
- A fringed poncho or ruana + a maxi dress.
- Pull a fringed poncho over a tank or tee and a maxi skirt.
- Wear a fringed poncho over a column of color, such as black (i.e., a black top + black pants + fringed kimono. Add flat black ankle boots + a long pendant.)
Outfits With a Fringed Kimono or Duster
- Wear a fringed kimono over any dress, including a t-shirt dress.
- Warm up a sweater dress with a fringed kimono and tights.
- Casually tuck a t-shirt into jean shorts and top with a fringed kimono or duster. Layer necklaces, such as a couple of pendants with a choker.
Outfits With a Fringed Jacket or Cardigan
- A black jacket or cardigan with fringe on it + pants in a matching shade of black + a red top. Add a belt and a red necklace.
More Outfits With Fringe
- With a camisole and any bottoms, wear a fringed scarf in soft cotton. Just languidly wrap it around your neck once.
- A fringed tunic or top + jeans or simple pants. Add ankle boots + Western-style jewelry, such as turquoise and coral.
And don’t forget leopard print! If you’ve been reading my blog, you may have gathered that I love animal prints and how they go with everything as neutrals. Therefore, I can never resist including this print in the outfit ideas I present for any style being covered. 😉

I love fringe details on my purses! I have a few that I usually wear in the summer.
I have one beautiful studded one with crystals. You’re making me think I should get some more. Lol! Hmmm… 😉
Great post and fun styles!! You’ve sellected beautiful items, Angie! I’ve been wearing fringes since the ’60s and still love them! I have fringes on vests, tops, cardigans, skirts, ponchos, scarves and purses (even gloves). I think fringes are timeless.
❤️carmen
I agree, Carmen, I think fringe is timeless because it comes in so many versions. I love that you mentioned it appears on gloves, too. I have a pair of brown suede gloves with fringe that I’ve had for ages. They add a bit of fun 🙂 And, of course, there’s fringe on the embroidered cuff I’m gifting with a sequined skirt for my giveaway. I hope my outfit ideas help you to wear your fringe collection in new ways. XO – Angie
I have a friend that would look fabulous in almost all of these. She doesn’t have the fashion fear that I do. I do like a purse with fringe though.
Do you have a purse with fringe? That’s a good start on showing your true self through fashion! XO, Angie
Lovely pieces, perfect for a boho style personality. Thanks for linking!
That would be my main style personality, but I’m also natural, laid-back, classic and rock ‘n’ roll…did I miss anything? Hmm…maybe…Lol! We can all dabble in whatever we want, but in the end it must be that we remain true to ourselves. In this case, fringe can be any style depending on how you use it. For instance, a straw bag with fringe or a gold necklace with gold chain fringe or a cardigan or poncho with fringe. The fringe doesn’t have to be long, just the way we want it.
