Style Tip: How to Take the Most Basic, Laid-Back Outfits to the Top
There are all kinds of ideas nowadays for how to style the most laid-back clothes in special and beautiful ways. We want to feel comfortable and to look good, too. Today’s style tip is inspiration for creating spectacular outfits from t-shirts, flannel shirts, sweats, loose jeans and drab colors. I found examples to help you envision some of the possibilities. And at the end of this post, I included a few outfit ideas. So let’s explore how to take the most basic, laid-back outfits to the top!
Style Tip:
Contrast embellished with grunge & layer.
I have done this combination of a sequined tee with a plaid shirt and I will do it again! It was accepted in public as perfectly natural.
This may be a young and free creative look, but age doesn’t really matter. Older is bolder. So if you like it, give it a try! Just snuggle into an oversize comfy sweater over a slip dress, chiffon skirt or tulle skirt. Add tights and furry footwear if you like.
Add a lacy layer to a grunge outfit, such as:
- a lace top under a plaid shirt, jean jacket or graphic tee;
- a lace top or topper with denim or sweats;
- a slouchy sweater with a lace skirt;
- and so on…
Layer a long black dress with a long-sleeve fishnet top underneath and a biker vest over. Add black embellished boots. Black, brown, gray and beige are dominant colors used in grunge designs because of their subdued, dirty and dull effect. Bright colors are replaced with more natural and subtle colors.
Ways to Take the Most Basic, Laid-Back Outfits to the Top
- Embellish plaid with pearls. Add fishnets and combat boots.
- Try a graphic tee over a long, tiered skirt with lace and sequins or a ruffled skirt. Add a couple of short crystal pendants & earrings + combat boots + fingerless gloves.
- Wear a cardigan with fur collar and cuffs with a denim maxi skirt and combat boots.
- A slouchy sweater over a long black skirt with metallic celestial print.
Top a chambray shirt and jeans with a velvet jean jacket. Then layer a beautiful scarf over it and add your favorite jewelry.
