Age doesn't matter.

Of the Moment Colors to Inspire Your Outfit Choices This Summer

I like to check out of-the-moment colors to help me explore new outfit ideas. Do you? Or do you like to know what’s new to buy? Or do you not care one bit at all about what’s trending, including colors? If that’s the case, think about how everything new is rejuvenating. Age doesn’t matter when you’ve got style! Just be sure it expresses your true self. And have fun!

For a long time now, I’ve been writing twice a year about the most popular seasonal colors based on the predictions of the Pantone Institute of Color. The experts there are considered the leading authority in color trends. They research what the designers use most in their Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter shows way ahead of time. It’s kind of like looking at seed catalogs in winter. It just has to do with planning.

I tend to write my color reviews when the season begins. That’s because I like to look into my wardrobe and choose outfits that fit with the weather of the day. But this year, I didn’t focus on what’s new colorwise at the beginning of spring. That’s because I was healing from surgery I had at the beginning of February. I was still wearing loose, comfortable tops which led me to writing a long series of posts on animal prints (HERE.) I have a variety of leopard and snakeskin tops in soft, loose and stretchy materials that became useful in the situation I was in.

However, spring isn’t over until June 21st when summer officially begins. So I haven’t missed it completely. Lol! We have all summer to wear these colors.

Of-the-Moment Colors Spring/Summer 2023

In this blog, my purpose is to share outfit ideas with you. If you get inspired to buy something, that’s fine. But my intention is really to inspire you to look into your closet and find new ways to wear what you have.

Rather than focusing on Pantone this time, I’m choosing what I think are the most popular outfit colors seen across Pinterest. These Spring/Summer 2023 Colors are azure and cobalt blue, greens, neutrals, saffron (spicy orange), cream and shades of white. I also want to note color blur, since I won’t be doing a separate post on it.

What I do is I print this out for myself and refer to it once in awhile when I’m trying to think of what to wear. I hope you’ll pull out any of these colors you have in your wardrobe and start using them throughout the summer. Enjoy!

Blur (Colors Blended Together)

Pierro Shirt from Sezane in Antique Flowers contains green, blue and saffron. Worn with cream crochet pants and saffron beads.

As technology progresses, there are many more ways colors are being blended into beautiful new patterns. This is just one example of the color blur trend above.

Baobab Cabana Dress from Free People in ombre hues

Ombre is another way to blend colors.

Digital gradient color, like those swirling together in the feature photo of this post, is another innovation in fabric coloration.

Greens

Slim Fit Stretch Polo Shirt from Ralph Lauren in lime with white pants belted with a concha belt. Then you can add any blazer and loafers.

The greens of nature just might be the color most seen all over the place. Think about wearing any green imaginable. Here are some possible shades:  summer green, spring green, lime, yellow green, neon green, sea green, khaki green, olive, teal, etc.

Green is the color with the greatest versatility, so no wonder it is showing up all over the place for yet another season!

Cobalt Blue/Azure

Design by Alberta Ferretti

Brilliant cobalt blue may be high on the popularity list this summer, but sky blue is also named as one of this summer’s designer favorites.

Saffron

From Alberta Ferretti

Saffron or spicy orange is a natural with any shade of khaki. Also, see in the first Alberta Ferretti photo previous to this one how saffron pops against azure blue.

Cream/White

Linen Floral Applique Tunic from Chico’s with cream crops

Blend shades and textures of white in one outfit or combine with any other neutrals to create monochrome outfits for summer.

Black is also trending this summer, perhaps because of the Wednesday television show.

See my post on how to make all black or all white look special HERE.

Neutrals

Neutrals go with everything so this is a classic, easy way to create an outfit.
