Fall & Winter Evenings: How to Wear a Silk or Satin Top
This blog came into being after I collected so many ways to wear my different types of clothing that I could never manage to do so. I decided I had enough ideas (and they keep coming!) to share with the world. I’ve always divided my notes into categories: Fall/Winter, Spring/Summer, Evening, Business, Lounging, etc. That makes it easy for me to find the ideal outfit combinations each day. Now that I have this blog, I’m organizing it into the same categories for your convenience. Here are some of the ways to wear silk or satin tops for Fall and Winter evenings. Age doesn’t matter.
Fall/Winter Evenings: How to Wear a Silk or Satin Top
Silk is the go-to luxury fabric. The texture feels luxurious, and the shine gives it a fancy appearance. Pair a shiny, silky top with faux leather bottoms (to be kind to animals) for a dressed-up look or dress it down with denim for an easy evening.
Satin has a rich, lustrous look and feel. It is an instant look-maker. To dress it up even more, add bling or rich gold accessories.
Outfit Ideas
You might already reach for your black trousers or skirt and a pretty top for evenings out. If you like a minimal look, that’s a quick and easy outfit. If you prefer to add something different, just look through your accessories for something special.
- Navy silk or satin shirt + black trousers. You may like to add a gold cuff bracelet + gold hoop earrings.
- A navy silk blouse as jacket over a teal jeweled camisole or a jewel-colored, bare top + navy velvet pants. You might want to add a belt.
- A black silk blouse open as a jacket + a jeweled camisole in a pretty color + black velvet trousers.
- Wear a multi-color silk/satin top with neutral-color skirt or pants. Add accessories in any or all the colors that tone to your outfit.
- Ivory silk blouse + a short brown suede skirt. Add a brown fur scarf and gold: bag, shoes, bangles, hair accessories.
- Ivory silk blouse + a navy velvet skirt or gray flannel skirt. Add tan fur scarf and gold: bag, shoes, bangles, hair accessories.
- Wear bottoms in a color toned to the color of your silk or satin top. They don’t have to match exactly.
- A satin shirt + blue jeans + a metallic belt, sash or scarf as belt.

I don’t think I have any winter silk blouses! All of my silk blouses are Lilly Pulitzer, and I don’t really know how to “winterize” them. It’s a shame, really. But, I do love the all pink look…especially if the shoes were embellished!

Are there any Fall/Winter colors in the Lilly Pulitzer blouses? If so, all you have to do is combine them with those cool-weather colors. I have a blog post on “how to dress in the colors of Winter” and “How to Look Great in the Cold? Layer Up!”
Those are great pieces! I’m loving the bold colors this season.
Thanks, Michelle. A satin top can even repel stains when a mom goes out for a family dinner on the weekend. Thanks for stopping by and joining the chat!
I’m so happy to learn that silk and satin blouses are back in style. I have a closet full of them from my former work attire that maybe I can repurpose to wear now! However, the DVF multi wrap top is stunning as is the Elie Tahari bordeaux blouse!
I agree. I should start pulling out my silk and satin blouses, tees and other tops to get more wear out of them. As the weather is getting cooler, they can still be layered!
Now that came on time as I just saw a fabulous silk top online! Thanks for the inspiration.
Ooh, I know what you mean! How nice to get confirmation on getting something you would love. Now you have ideas for ways to wear it. Enjoy!
