Style Tip of the Day: How to Look Better in Comfy Clothes
Do you just want to wear comfortable clothes every day? Do you wish they looked as good as they felt? I know of something that might help! It’s part of my Style Tips Series (HERE.) Today’s style tip is about how to look better in your comfy clothes.
Style Tip of the Day —
For weekends and casual days: Build off your sporty clothes — add patterned pieces and posh accessories.
Start with sporty clothes such as:
- bomber jackets
- cargo pants,
- hoodies,
- joggers,
- leggings,
- sweats,
- track pants,
- t-shirts,
- or yoga pants.
These are some of the patterned/printed or posh pieces you can add to your sporty clothes:
- animal prints, especially with texture
- a floral skirt
- heels, whether sandals, pumps or boots
- a kimono or duster
- a patterned, silk, chiffon or lace jacket
- a pinstriped jacket or pants
- a scarf, embellished or printed or made of a posh material
- statement jewelry, such as: earrings, a necklace or a bracelet (maybe a tennis bracelet)
- a striped tee
In my last style tip (Style Tip of the Day: How to Dress Down a Skirt or Dress HERE,) I mentioned that one combination could be pairing a skirt or dress with your comfy sneakers, another sporty piece.
Aren’t Patterns and Prints the Same Thing?
Liz at Closet Play Image wrote about the difference between prints and patterns. This is what she says:
- A pattern is woven into the cloth rather than printed onto it. Examples are plaids, houndstooth, stripes, and pinstripes.
- A classic striped tee is an exception to the rule, as it is generally considered patterned rather than printed despite the fact that it is not a part of the knit.
I used prints as well as patterns in my images below because it gave me more freedom to come up with outfit ideas that take sporty clothes up a level. So free your creativity to get new outfit ideas by adding whatever elements pop into your mind! This style tip can be your starting point.
Here Are Some Examples of How This Style Tip Might Look:
The fall outfit above goes to show that you can use this tip all year long. In place of a plaid or houndstooth jacket, wear a plaid shirt unbuttoned. With leggings, one or both of your tops are best in tunic length to be sure you are covered behind.
For spring and summer, you can wear leggings with a lightweight jacket over a tunic-length tank top with heeled sandals.
Just add an animal-print scarf to a t-shirt and jogger pants.
Another idea is to take a t-shirt or sweatshirt and add animal-print pants or skirt or shorts and some jewelry.
Or, reverse that and wear an animal-print top with sweatpants, joggers, cargo pants, etc.
Or, add a topper or any accessory in animal print. It will add edgy style or a hint of sexiness to casual, sporty pieces.
Finally, you might want to add fierce jewelry, footwear and/or handbag (chains, studs, faux leather, etc.,) once you start with an animal-print piece.
Pair a sporty cardigan, such as a hoodie, or a bomber jacket with a lacy, frilly, mesh or sheer skirt. Then add boots or sneakers.
Top a pair of jogger pants with a sweatshirt or tee and a patterned blazer. Then add boots, sneakers, casual flats or footwear with a heel.
Add a striped tee to joggers and a hoodie.
Layer a short-sleeve and long-sleeve t-shirt over loose metallic pants or skirt. Add sneakers and you’re good!
When wearing sweats, just add patterned shoes to spiff up your outfit. A patterned or posh belt helps to add shape.
Add a lace duster kimono and/or polka dots.
Dress up a pair of jogger pants or cargo pants with a silk camisole and a long kimono.
A t-shirt can be messy tucked into printed pants or skirts. An embroidered scarf is nice to add if there’s a cool breeze.
Printed bottoms upgrade a hoodie.
Wear leggings or a pencil skirt with a long hoodie.
If your hoodie is not long, pair it with pants or a maxi skirt.
