Style Tip of the Day: An Innovative Way to Think About Leopard Prints
Last year, I posted a series of style tips and outfit ideas on wearing animal prints. In today’s installment of my Animal Print Series, I’m sharing an idea on how to use leopard prints in new ways. It takes some thinking outside the box and putting a twist on your usual outfits. Older is bolder, so age doesn’t matter.
A New Way to Think of Leopard Prints
Style Tip:
Think of leopard as your version of plaid.
How do you like to wear plaid? Why don’t you think about replacing the plaid piece in your usual outfits with an animal print, especially leopard. These prints are easily used as neutrals and will swap into place seamlessly. They will have more sass, though, which can be even better. It’s definitely a step up from the most casual laid-back outfit and just as comfortable.
Just like plaid, animal prints bring nature back into urban life.
In the Fall & Winter, wear a leopard shirt with a denim skirt + a long-sleeve t-shirt or turtleneck and tall boots. In the Spring & Summer, swap the tee or turtleneck for a tank and the boots for sandals.
Fall & Winter
- A leopard-print flannel shirt open over a layering top & casual pants. Add flat boots.
- Layer an animal-print shirt or tee with a hoodie.
- A leopard shirt + cropped bottoms or bermuda shorts + heels.
- Pair a leopard-print dress with an animal-print coat.
- Pair an animal-print skirt with a chunky sweater and knee-high boots.
- Wear an leopard-print top under a cardigan for a casual date look.
- A leopard-print over a turtleneck & trousers.
Spring & Summer
- For warm weather, your usual tank or tee with a leopard-print skirt and sandals is an easy go-to.
Anytime
- Leopard prints are usually shades of brown and black but they also come in many other colors. Mix your animal prints with different shades within the same color family or mix and match with complimentary colors.
- For a simple yet sophisticated look, wear a leopard-print top with jeans and leather work boots.
- Wear a leopard-print topper such as a jacket, cardigan, kimono or duster over a column of color (same color top and bottom.) Or wear a leopard shirt open as a jacket over a monochrome base.
Have fun replacing plaid shirts, jackets, skirts, pants and scarves with leopard prints. You just might discover new outfits that you never thought of before!

You sound like a very creative person, daring and experimental! I love getting your feedback. You could even mix leopard with your plaid to tone it down even more. 😉
