There are those times when you need to go directly from your business of the day to an evening out, especially during the holiday season! Age doesn’t matter if you have fun things to do and don’t want to stop at home to change first. Here are some general tips to help the busy woman dress for day to evening this winter. First, I start with a couple of style tips. And then I end with 14 outfit combinations. I hope you will try some of these ideas and let me know how it turns out.

General Tips to Help You to Dress for Day to Evening
1. Pack Evening Accessories
To go from day to night, the simplest thing to do is to carry evening accessories with you. Include special jewelry, a clutch and evening shoes. Intensify your makeup and you’re done!
2. Wear Some Texture and/or Embellishment During the Day
For winter, velvet, leather and embellished pieces go easily from day to evening. A sparkly scarf works all day as well, and adds a little warmth, too.
3. Choose Certain Colors
Black is a classic for both day and night, but you can use any other colors including browns. Red commands attention during the day and is festive and sexy at night. It can spark up any outfit for evening.
4. The Value of Gold
Gold accessories are always classy, whether for day or evening.
14 Ways to Dress for Day to Evening in Winter
Here are some winter outfit suggestions that can bridge from day to evening without going home to change. I have organized them into four sections. Use what you have and substitute as needed.
Tops That Can Go From Day to Evening in Winter
- A black turtleneck + a black pencil skirt. Add nude stockings + nude heels.
- A short-sleeved black lace top + white jeans. Add a big gold watch or gold watch set (watch with matching bracelet).
- Wear a black cowl-neck sweater with black trousers & brogues. For evening, change to a sheer blouse and add some bling.
- A cashmere sweater + any bottoms. Add a metallic scarf.
One Way to Go From Day to an Evening Business Event
- Pair a long-sleeved lace top with gray flannel pants or tweed trousers. Add evening boots & beads.
Toppers That Can Help You Dress From Day to Evening
- Top a velvet dress with a sleeveless blazer or a long vest worn open. Loop a skinny scarf around your neck once or twice and then tie it off to the side.
- A wrap cardigan + matching pants + a lace camisole. Add a fab necklace.
- Top a crisp cotton button-down shirt with an embellished cardigan and wear over any bottoms of your choice.
How Blazers Can Help You to Dress From Day to Evening
- Jeans + a dressy top + a blazer. For evening, switch the blazer to a black leather jacket and add sparkly or statement jewelry + perfect evening makeup.
- A long black dress + a brown blazer. Add black ankle boots + a beaded pendant necklace. (A cropped, fitted or belted blazer works well with a long dress.)
- A black velvet blazer + a white blouse tucked into black pants. Add a gold scarf.
- Wear a simple maxi dress for day. Then for evening, top with a blazer and a pendant.
- A black blazer over jeans and a tee. For evening, add heels + an evening bag + statement earrings.
- A blazer + a tank top + any bottoms. Add over-the-knee boots.
