Do You Have to Be a Certain Type to Wear Leopard Prints?
One day at work, I heard some women talking about leopard prints. They said, “I couldn’t possibly wear leopard prints.” They all agreed that they didn’t own any leopard prints and never would, that they were not the type to wear that. But do you really have to be a certain type to wear leopard prints?
Taming the Leopard-Print Image
I thought to myself, “Do I wear leopard?” As I counted the ways, I had to laugh at myself! I actually love animal prints. They are absolutely wearable in tasteful ways. You don’t have to look sleazy when wearing these prints. That must be the picture my coworkers got from seeing women dressed in an overly sexy way.
Let me see, I have:
leopard print kitten-heel boots and slip-on sneakers, leopard bras and panties, leopard scarves, a leopard belt, a leopard makeup bag, leopard t-shirts, a leopard blouse, leopard exercise leggings, a satin leopard skirt, a leopard maxi-dress, a leopard fur jacket, even leopard jewelry! I also have a tiger-print skirt, a snake-print blouse, snake-print exercise leggings, an animal-print tunic and an animal-print silk t-shirt. People always compliment me on the fur jacket, skirts and tunic.
I started with one little accessory; I think it was the belt. Then I added another little accessory. And then, I added the underwear. Then I tried a dress. By then, I think I felt free to get whatever I liked!
The leopard accessories, such as a belt, scarf or bag can be used in place of a pop of color. Leopard actually does work as a neutral. It goes with everything, just like indigo denim does.
In the summer, if your bra straps happen to show when wearing a camisole, it looks better if it’s a pretty color, lace or leopard print.
All references to leopard prints in this post are meant to be faux or vegan in order to be kind to animals.
When I talk about wearing leopard or animal prints, I actually mean “vegan,” or faux leopard. I once ordered a leopard guitar strap and it took forever for the order to come in. When I called the store to find out what was taking so long, they said that the hunter was having a hard time finding and trapping a leopard in order to make it. I thought this was a joke at first, until I was assured that it was true. I immediately cancelled the order and bought a different guitar strap!
Leopard Prints Done Right
Once on a cold day, as I walked to my car in the parking lot, I noticed a woman beautifully dressed in a leopard coat. She was sitting inside her car, but I still noticed her. That’s what leopard can do: get you noticed! Here she is.
