Color of the Year 2025: Mocha Mousse is Warm & Comforting
Pantone regularly chooses the color of the year based on a global mood and attitude. This year they chose the color of chocolate and coffee, answering a desire for comfort: a warming brown hue imbued with richness. It evokes wonderful taste and multi-sensory appeal. And neutrals create a classy palette so that age doesn’t matter. The name of the color of the year 2025 is mocha mousse.
Color of the Year 2025: Mocha Mousse
“Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence. Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, Pantone…Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe.” — Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director Pantone Color Institute
The shade is more a latte or milk chocolate rather than a dark chocolate. Aside from being easy on the eyes, Mocha Mousse appeals to our sense of taste and scent, according to Eiseman.
Ralph Lauren knows how to create calm and monochrome looks using mocha mousse and the whole array of earthy browns and tans, down to ivory and cream.
This year’s shade also lends itself beautifully to textures such as suede, corduroy, faux leather, faux fur, etc.
Color Combinations
Mocha mousse goes well with burgundy, blush, apricot, rose, blues and black (think black & tan.)
It also goes with all the earth tones including soft greens, such as olive and sage.
You can create contrast with mustard yellow and slate gray.
But go ahead and feel free to experiment with other colors. You might like to try shades of violet or some of your other favorite colors. Blue greens usually go great with shades of brown.
Footwear and accessories such as belts and bags can match or tone in gold, taupe, tan, cognac or brown. Suede is especially rich looking in accessories or pairings.
Mix mocha mousse with burgundy, burnt orange or deep red.
And last but never least, I always like to remind you that animal prints go with everything! Leopard print and snake print look great with mocha mousse. Shoes and boots are an easy addition to add interest. Or try a top, a skirt or pants, a jacket, a scarf, a belt or a bag.
