Are You Interested in How to Wear Midi Skirts More?
A midi skirt is the most flattering length for most women, generally falling somewhere below the knee to mid-calf (thus called midi.) It’s a very convenient length for free movement and for staying cool on hot days. I gravitate towards dresses and skirts during the hot summers we’re having nowadays. Therefore, I’m interested in wearing my midi skirts more. Are you interested in how to wear midi skirts? In this post, I’m exploring ways to wear them to motivate me to pull them out of my closet and get them into rotation. I hope these ideas inspire you, too.
The midi goes beyond spring and summer, of course. In this post, you’ll find not only how to wear midi skirts this summer but also during cool weather and for evenings.
There’s no right or wrong way to style a midi skirt. So choose your favorite pairings and accessories and just do you!
How to Wear Midi Skirts Spring & Summer
Even with a very special skirt, add a t-shirt (even a graphic tee) and top it off with whatever you want or need.
Pair a midi skirt + a t-shirt or crop top. Dress it up with heeled sandals or give it an edge with black faux leather boots. With this simple outfit formula, the possibilities are endless.
- Whatever the season, just pop a simple pullover on with a midi skirt.
- Pair a linen t-shirt with a linen midi skirt. Add sandals & hoop earrings.
- Try an open-knit sweater over a midi skirt.
- Got a polka-dot midi skirt? Pair it with a polka-dot top, no matter what color.
- Simply wear a shirt with a midi skirt: over, under or open as a jacket.
- Tuck a basic white buttondown into a midi skirt and pop the color up.
- In warm weather, wear a midi skirt casually with a t-shirt and sneakers. Just add a delicate necklace.
How to Wear a Midi Skirt Fall & Winter
- In cool weather, tuck a silky top into a midi skirt and top with a jean jacket. Add boots.
- Top a black top & black midi skirt, printed or not, with a black faux leather jacket. Add boots and accessories of your choice.
- Try monochrome. For example: A black shell tucked into a black midi skirt topped with a black jacket-style cardigan. Add a brooch + black stockings and boots.
- With a sweater & a midi skirt, you might want to add definition with a belt. Accessorize as desired.
- Tuck a black featherweight turtleneck inside a black striped midi skirt. Add ankle boots.
How to Wear a Midi Skirt for Evening
A midi skirt is elegant for evening events. It can easily be dressed up with fancy tops, toppers, shoes and accessories.
- Top a white camisole & a midi skirt with a lacy, sheer or embroidered duster. Add statement earrings + heeled sandals.
- A romantic/embroidered jacket + a silky/satiny blouse or tee + a ruffled skirt or sequined midi skirt. Add a romantic/vintage necklace & earrings + pretty footwear.
- Cinch a slim top over a midi skirt with a statement belt at the narrowest point.

I love midi skirts especially the pleated ones. Thank you for sharing these tips.
You’re welcome! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Although these attractive midis look great on tall thin women, on 5 foot me, not so much. I would say the length of the olive green full skirt covers the knees but would work better on me. Nevertheless, I love the look of the tulle skirt, the pale blue and white paisley, and the other pleated skirt. Plus your tips are terrific!
What looks best on petites, Allison? Is there something you would like me to blog about? All requests are welcome! P.S. I’m only 5’4″ but I wear all lengths – short, midi and maxi. I do have to respect my body shape, as we all do, with certain considerations in the clothes I choose (I’m an inverted triangle with a full bust.)
