‘Tis the season for holiday parties! It’s time to dress up and have a lot more fun than usual. Below, I have 9 outfit ideas to make you look beautiful at holiday parties of various sorts. There’s something for a cocktail party, an evening party, an office party, a party at home or at an informal restaurant, or even a party at the bar. Age doesn’t matter because you can apply these outfit ideas to your taste wherever you go.
A faux fur vest is a good piece to have for Fall and Winter. You can actually wear one any time of year and age doesn’t matter. It adds a layer of warmth over your clothes or over a jacket in winter, and can be used as an extra layer under your coat. When you add a coat over a fur vest, you will be super warm on the coldest days of the year. Just be sure it’s not bulky! The fur vest dresses up any outfit in the same way that a statement necklace does. You can always use an accessory that dresses up your ordinary clothes, especially something nice and warm! Do you sometimes wonder how you can feel cool yet look classy when it’s hot? I found the answer long ago in the book: Hot Tips: 1000 Fashion and Beauty Tricks by Frances Patiky Stein. In the “Summer Tricks” section of the book, she tells how to make an instant summer suit. I’ve used this outfit idea dozens of times when I was working and it kept me cool while being office-appropriate. Although this won’t work for a very conservative corporate environment where an actual suit is required, it’s useful in many other ways. You can put together your own suit from cool separates where the dress codes is not so strict as well as for business evenings, business travel, city day meetings and events and even business in country settings. Age doesn’t matter at all!
First I’ll give you the trick as presented by Stein in her book. Then I’ll tell you how I used it myself and how this outfit combination can be adapted to different occasions. This post is an installment in my Style Tips category.

Since wedding season has begun, you may be wondering what to wear. Black tie is often the order of the evening for weddings, galas and a number of other special events as specified in the outfit ideas below.

Let me introduce you to my good friend, Sinderella. She has had a career singing, playing bass, recording and touring with several bands. Those include Glitter Trash, Madhouse and Fillmore Slim, as well as support for LA Guns! She has also worked in film and TV. I asked Sin if she could tell me: “How can women over 60 get the Rock Chic look?” She has honed a nice glam rock look for herself by now that she can pass on to the rest of us. Right off the top of her head, she gave me the tips that I’m sharing with you here today. Since age doesn’t matter, her advice can work for anyone who wants to rock this style!
Back when I was 20 something, I knew a guy who got a really creative haircut. I asked him where he got it done. He directed me to Sin, who was doing hair in her basement back then. I had her try some daring do’s on me, and we’ve been friends ever since!
