Do you sometimes wonder what to add to a basic outfit to take it from plain and boring to something more? This style tip of the day is one idea for how to make a basic outfit into something special. This is an installment in my Style Tips series that you can find HERE…because age doesn’t matter when you’ve got style!
On the weekends, our family often goes boating to the beach to have a barbecue. Other times, we might meet at a restaurant in town (outdoors during COVID19.) I imagine many of you, like my family and friends, socialize at outdoor barbecues on summer weekends. During the year of 2020, there were many casual days at home. And the comfortable mode of dressing that went with it was such a pleasure that it persisted. Some of the easiest pieces to wear are basic tees and dresses. So I have a style tip to show you how to make them look remarkable.
Age doesn’t matter. And what’s even better is that this style tip is useful throughout the year any time you want to dress up your basic outfit!
The stores are luring you to buy fall clothes while we still have warm summer days to enjoy. Meanwhile, summer clothes are on deep discount. Do you have summer dresses you would still like to wear? Or maybe you want to snap one up on sale right now! And maybe you still want to wear your sandals for as long as possible before switching to boots. Now is the time to make the most of your last chance to wear summer dresses!
My Style Tip of the day is not about just any summer dress. How about something a little more special that you might not have worn yet this season? Age doesn’t matter. Just give yourself permission to wear what you love. The tip below shows one way to stretch your wardrobe boundaries.
At the end of this post, I’m including ways to transition your dresses to Fall. And there are links to my posts on layering and making all of your outfits work for colder weather.
Do you sometimes wonder how you can feel cool yet look classy when it’s hot? I found the answer long ago in the book: Hot Tips: 1000 Fashion and Beauty Tricks by Frances Patiky Stein. In the “Summer Tricks” section of the book, she tells how to make an instant summer suit. I’ve used this outfit idea dozens of times when I was working and it kept me cool while being office-appropriate. Although this won’t work for a very conservative corporate environment where an actual suit is required, it’s useful in many other ways. You can put together your own suit from cool separates where the dress codes is not so strict as well as for business evenings, business travel, city day meetings and events and even business in country settings. Age doesn’t matter at all!
First I’ll give you the trick as presented by Stein in her book. Then I’ll tell you how I used it myself and how this outfit combination can be adapted to different occasions. This post is an installment in my Style Tips category.
