Starting with this post, I am introducing a new category on my blog called “Style Tips.” Today’s tip is a basic way to style any printed top. Age doesn’t matter. This styling tip shows you a classic way that anyone can create an outfit with a printed top.
You could just wear blue jeans with a printed top, since jeans go with everything. Same thing goes for wearing a neutral color that isn’t in the print, such as all black, all white, all gray, all navy, or even all khaki with your printed top. Or you could wear mixed neutrals. If you go that route, start with a neutral color that is in the top and then tone everything else to the neutral that you chose.
But the focus of today’s tip is to pull a single shade from your printed top and match it to everything else. Your top could be anything, including a tunic or jacket. Choose your bottoms, shoes, jewelry and purse in the one shade that you pulled from the print. You might want to add a scarf in a different color, though. That’s okay; go ahead! Now how does it look? Let’s see. Continue Reading
I first fell in love with the safari look when I saw it in the Ralph Lauren style guide. He captured the romance of an exotic adventure and the nomadic spirit. A Ralph Lauren catchword is “global artisan,” a keyword for the ethnic style I favor toward. The other styles that fill my eyes with stars and take my breath away are exotic and bohemian, which fit right in with safari chic. Do you like these styles too?
The urban safari look is timeless, recurring year after year in ever modern variations during the spring and summer months, and even in fall. Since this style is classic, age doesn’t matter. Whether you add one piece or wear an entire outfit based on the safari theme, anyone can wear this. The trick is to do it your way. As I always say, show your true self!
The safari theme contrasts masculine and feminine. Its main idea is the comfort and utility of a safari vacation in the African outback. Its feminine touches are based on themes of royalty and candlelit dinners in weathered canvas tents. Overall it has a rustic feel with rich embellishments.
What follows is every element of modern urban safari style, so that you can begin to incorporate it into your spring, summer (and even fall!) outfits. I hope these ideas inspire more creativity as you look for new ways to wear what you have in a way that you love.
It’s nice to have a guide handy for times when we might be wondering which necklace to choose that would go perfectly with the neckline of our top. In fact, it’s nice to have a handy guide for lots of things. (See my Pinterest board called “Guides.”) Besides, I always believe in checking everything, “just in case.” I think it’s always a good idea. Age doesn’t matter.
Necklace lengths range from 14-inch chokers to 24-inch strands that fall beneath the breasts. I had a necklace made on a 30″ chain once for layering, and I never use it. It’s too much for just about anyone.
Your own eye will tell you if a necklace looks good against a particular neckline. But if you’re wondering, here are the generally accepted guidelines for what goes with what: Continue Reading
This is a diary of the healthy lifestyle goals that my son, Chris, and I are making together each month. Since it takes 21-30 days to develop a new habit, making a goal for the month ahead is an effective strategy.
He and I agree that making these monthly goals together and posting our results here for you to see helps us to improve our health. I’ve always found that if I say out loud to someone what I plan on doing, I’m more likely to do it. Because if I say I will, I feel responsible to follow through.
Age doesn’t matter. It’s never too late. You can always make progress and actually reverse the signs of aging!
Chris’s goal last month was to get back to the healthy eating patterns that have become his normal diet since working on these goals for the last couple of years. That means less carbs, fried and greasy foods and maybe a little less sugar.
For my part, I agreed to go to the gym twice a week since my seasonal exercises were out-of-season. Chris wanted to talk me into more, but I’m going to agree to more for next month’s goal. Lol!
