Since wedding season has begun, you may be wondering what to wear. Black tie is often the order of the evening for weddings, galas and a number of other special events as specified in the outfit ideas below.
“So what exactly is Black tie?” you may ask. It’s formal dressing, only second to White tie. Typically it calls for a floor-length gown, but you may also opt for a shorter fancy cocktail dress. Bring out your best jewels and heels, and jazz it up!
Age doesn’t matter. The ideas I present to you here are basic guidelines, but today’s rules are constantly being broken to allow for more creativity. If you’re going to a wedding, consider the expectations of the wedding party as well as selecting what you love and what looks good on you!
I was at the gym, and looked around at the gym clothes everyone had on. I was impressed with how edgy and cool people look when they wear all black, sophisticated too. It really does create a strong impression. Age doesn’t matter. Since I love wearing black, I decided to explore how to look good in black when it’s not your color. Because it’s not mine!
Let me introduce you to my good friend, Sinderella. She has had a career singing, playing bass, recording and touring with several bands. Those include Glitter Trash, Madhouse and Fillmore Slim, as well as support for LA Guns! She has also worked in film and TV. I asked Sin if she could tell me: “How can women over 60 get the Rock Chic look?” She has honed a nice glam rock look for herself by now that she can pass on to the rest of us. Right off the top of her head, she gave me the tips that I’m sharing with you here today. Since age doesn’t matter, her advice can work for anyone who wants to rock this style!
About Sin
Back when I was 20 something, I knew a guy who got a really creative haircut. I asked him where he got it done. He directed me to Sin, who was doing hair in her basement back then. I had her try some daring do’s on me, and we’ve been friends ever since!
Today, she co-owns Paula’s Barber Shop in the Historic Depot Town of Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she is known for doing Rock ‘n’ Roll Hair. She also teaches art and guitar.
Sin very graciously sent me photos of her style and took photos of her wardrobe items. She said, “These are all I could find not in stage wear!” Just so you know, Sin dresses like this every day…
So I present to you Sin showing us her glam rock look. Following her tips and looks is a glam rock wardrobe capsule based on what she’s wearing in the photos. She said, “Mix and match, to create any look!”Continue Reading
A bit of sparkle comes in many forms: jewelry, embellishment with sequins or crystals, metallics, etc. Age doesn’t matter because your true self sparkles and shines, too! Today, I’m sharing a formula showing how to sparkle and shine in a metallic top. I’d like to encourage you to think outside of the box as well. You can wear a metallic top any day of the season as part of your usual casual outfit. And it’s a good piece to wear for virtual get-togethers!
I wore my gold Lurex sweater tunic quite a few times in Christmases past — from the extended family celebration to around the office during the holiday season to holiday brunch with friends. The last time I wore it, co-workers told me it looked so comfy, and it was!
Evening pajamas are not for sleeping, but rather for partying! Since at least the 1920’s, women have entertained at home in silky, sexy, comfortable pajama outfits; then at the dinner parties of friends; then out to the theater and now on the streets day and night. From Greta Garbo to Kate Moss, think of comfortable and flowing clothes in silky materials, soft cashmere, generous volumes, loose-fitting trousers, long flowing skirts, slides (especially sequined), slip-on shoes and smoking slippers.
