I was struck by the fact that a couple of articles from “InStyle” magazine were about being true to yourself. That issue is central, of course, to my philosophy presented in Your True Self blog. The first question to answer is “who are you?” Once you have the answer to that, you can free your true style. I think these articles can help with this. Age doesn’t matter. So, I am going to discuss them in this post and give you the links.
It’s October and time to look forward to Halloween! Age doesn’t matter. It’s a good time to get away with wearing orange with black because nobody will think the Halloween connotation is bad, but rather fitting at this time. My favorite motif for Halloween is skulls because it’s an anytime symbol for goth, rock and apocalyptic style. I think it’s cool (or dope, as they say); how about you? So I’m excited to show you how to embrace the style of the cool skull-print scarf.
Just because I’m thinking that we all might have fun wearing our skull-motif clothes and accessories in October doesn’t mean we can’t wear these pieces any time of the year. As I focus on ways to wear a skull-print scarf today, I hope it helps you to use yours more often.
If you don’t have one and are interested in shopping what I am featuring, you can click on the photos in this post to visit the brand. I am not affiliated with any of these products; they are simply linked for your convenience. Most of the great looks here feature the iconic Alexander McQueen skull scarves. But if you like more of a deal, you can easily find one at Etsy, eBay, Amazon and places like Hot Topic.
Do you remember experimenting with your clothes when you first formed your own unique style? Then you had to adhere to certain dress codes for business and various social events. Hopefully, you can now wear whatever you want. Even if you feel you can’t, I still think you should be free to show your true self. If you haven’t experimented in awhile, I encourage you to start now. Trying new things is fun, youthful and brings out aspects of yourself that you may not even know you have. That’s when age doesn’t matter. So with that in mind, let’s explore Steampunk style. You can try it out a little or a lot. Choose from it what you love and add that to your tried and true favorites.
This post explores what Steampunk is, what the elements are that make up the style and how to put them together or add them to existing outfits. So let’s start exploring!
I have found a local jewelry artisan who always has something that wows me. Her artistry is amazing and there’s something for everyone. Age doesn’t matter. If you would like to try something new in jewelry just for you, I endorse Brenda’s Wire Wrap Jewelry. Although her specialty is wire wrap, she makes a variety of other designs; She makes exclusive designs upon request; And with her wire-wrap jewelry, you get to mold each piece to your liking and to your size. That makes it easy to get each piece on and off without having to choose a size.
Do you sometimes wonder how you can feel cool yet look classy when it’s hot? I found the answer long ago in the book: Hot Tips: 1000 Fashion and Beauty Tricks by Frances Patiky Stein. In the “Summer Tricks” section of the book, she tells how to make an instant summer suit. I’ve used this outfit idea dozens of times when I was working and it kept me cool while being office-appropriate. Although this won’t work for a very conservative corporate environment where an actual suit is required, it’s useful in many other ways. You can put together your own suit from cool separates where the dress codes is not so strict as well as for business evenings, business travel, city day meetings and events and even business in country settings. Age doesn’t matter at all!
First I’ll give you the trick as presented by Stein in her book. Then I’ll tell you how I used it myself and how this outfit combination can be adapted to different occasions. This post is an installment in my Style Tips category.
