Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is a Danish concept based on living cozily and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. It is a mindful and minimalist way of life. It applies to all aspects of life including home, work, relationships, parenting, holidays, food and clothes. At a time when we are enjoying comfortable clothes in all aspects of our lives, I decided it’s a good time to explore hygge style. Since comfort is key, age doesn’t matter!
Whether you’re working at home or relaxing on weekends, you can still look good — even when no one’s looking. Just for you…your true self…body, mind and soul…to be comfortable and beautiful. So I’m going to share with you my ideas on how to look cute when you’re just lounging around. Age doesn’t matter.
Since I’ve been working at home writing a fashion blog, I don’t need to get dressed for work anymore. I’m around the house a lot. And, of course, I just want to be comfortable. It’s time to dress down.
Yet I still like to play with colors, scarves are my signature piece, and I like to add a cool piece of jewelry or more. As always, I don’t like to wear the same thing twice; I like to create endless combinations of what I have. Yet I have some favorite combos, such as a tunic with skinnies or a maxi with a t-shirt. And the best thing is: I love my jeans.
What do you wear when you’re just hanging around the house? Do you wear sweats or jeans and a tee? Are you tired of the same old thing and feel like you’re ready for some new inspiration? Do you want to look great while you lounge in comfort?
Today I have a simple way for you to add spice to a casual everyday outfit. So all you have to do is grab a few basic pieces in the morning and top it off with something to make it a little more special.
A common go-to outfit, especially for the transitional seasons, is a t-shirt and a cardigan with jeans or just about any other bottoms. For the office, you could use a skirt or trousers. Right off the bat, the good thing is that there’s a third piece in this outfit combination to add interest to your tee and jeans (or pants or skirt). (You can read more about “How to Use the Amazing Powers of a Cardigan” here).
But if you leave it at that, it’s still plain jeans and a tee with a cardigan. Details always add it more style. I have collected style tips over the years, and like to share them with you. As an installment in my “Style Tips” category (here), I have an accessory tip for you today.
Three is the magic number for adding style to an outfit. The cardigan is a third piece, and thereby has the power to transform whatever you put it over. The cardigan can dress up or dress down your outfit. And if you started with two pieces (i.e., a top and a bottom, or a dress and a belt) the third piece can add your own personal style to them. So let’s take a look at how to use the amazing powers of a cardigan.
As you can see in the photo above, just adding a cardigan to one piece (the dress) changes the whole mood of your outfit. The basic gray knit cardigan makes the lace dress wearable for day and casual events.
